Love's in the air for endangered white rhinos

The article, with its titillating title The Most Eagerly Awaited Rhino Porn of All Time, comes via Scientific American. The, er, thrust of the story? It's a video of Najin and Suni (two of only seven northern white rhinos left in the world) doing the deed at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. The critically endangered animals are widely considered extinct in the wild. Four were transferred to Ol Pejeta in 2009 in the hope that they would successfully breed and save this subspecies from extinction. Sadly, the rhinos showed little interest in romance – until now!

If this mating results in pregnancy, it could be a small ray of hope for the northern white rhino...
