It's a lucky close call and an unfortunate loss all at the same time for this sea otter in the waters of Tutka Bay in Alaska. Surrounded by circling killer whales, the sea otter mom and her young pup find themselves in serious danger. The otter mom only narrowly escapes the jaws of the orcas by leaping onto a passing motorboat, but according to the video, her young pup is not so lucky. Otters generally give birth to only one pup at a time and survival rates are very low ... only 25% of young otters make it through their first year.
